Zebrahead Movie Review
Zebrahead was first shown less than 18 months before Ray Sharkey died of AIDS in a Brooklyn Hospital, so Richard Glass, an aggressively promiscuous character that seemed funny while Sharkey was still alive, is significantly less amusing now, especially since he wants his adolescent son to follow his example. Otherwise, Zebrahead is an enjoyable teen indie about a star-crossed romance between white kid/black wannabe Zack Glass (Michael Rapaport) and his best friend's cousin Nikki (N'Bushe Wright), who's black. Needless to say, Nikki's mother and everyone in school has an opinion on this couple. Similar in theme, although definitely not in approach to a better Australian teen flick, 1989's Flirting, directed by John Duigan and starring Noah Taylor and Thandie Newton. Zebrahead was filmed on location in Detroit, Michigan.
