Trust Movie Review

If you liked Adrienne Shelly in The Unbelievable Truth, you'll enjoy seeing her as Maria Coughlin in Trust. Both Maria and her newfound friend (Martin Donovan as Matthew Slaughter) supply Trust with a quirky view of the roots of all evil, Suburbia and Families. Maria's father John (Marko Hunt) dies of a heart attack when she tells the folks she's having a baby, courtesy of her ex-boyfriend, the high school quarterback. On the other hand, Matthew's mother died in the delivery room. PLUS: Both Maria's mother Jean (Merritt Nelson) and Matthew's father Jim (John MacKay) are MEAN. Only in Hal Hartleyland!

1991 (R) 107m/C Adrienne Shelly, Martin Donovan, Merritt Nelson, Edie Falco, John MacKay, Marko Hunt; D: Hal Hartley; W: Hal Hartley; C: Michael Spiller; M: Phil Reed. Sundance Film Festival ‘91: Best Screenplay. VHS, LV, Closed Caption
