Stubby Movie Review

Bo Widerberg's Stubby is such a dear, sweet movie. So how come I don't like it any better than 1967's Elvira Madigan, also by Widerberg? The title character is a precocious youngster, played by a cute kid named Johan Bergman, who plays for Sweden's national soccer team. Monica Zetterlund gives a nice, winning performance as his teacher and John Olsson tenderly photographs little kitties and pretty kiddies. Widerberg also edited and produced. Soccer fans may dig it, but cranky cynics, beware!

1974 90m/C SW Johan Bergman, Monica Zetterlund, Magnus Harenstam, Ernst-Hugo Jaregard, Swedish National Soccer Team; D: Bo Widerberg; W: Bo Widerberg; C: John Olsson.
