Sorceress Movie Review

Sorceress, directed by longtime François Truffaut–collaborator Suzanne Schiffman, is an immaculate film about a 13th century French village and the priest who confronts their “heretical” superstitions. Co-written by art history professor Pamela Berger, the story never lets you forget for an instant that it is told through 20th century eyes. For that reason, this rather remote film lacks one crucial ingredient: the element of surprise. Even so, Sorceress is well worth watching for the superb acting and fine period details. AKA: Le Moine et la Sorcière.
