Lucky Jim Movie Review

“Oh, Lucky Jim, how I envy him…” Well, who wouldn't, when he's played by the delightful Ian Carmichael, long before he inherited the role of Lord Peter Wimsey? The thing is, university lecturer Jim Dixon is far from lucky, although he'd certainly like to be. This wonderfully played, deftly directed vintage Britcom is a good one to rent when you're home sick with a head cold; it will have you laughing your way to health in no time. Cast Notes: Canadian actress Sharon Acker, then 22, makes her debut here; she would later star in three short-lived U.S. television series of the 1970s, including the ill-fated Perry Mason show in which she—ahem—TRIED to inherit Barbara Hale's role as Della Street. Kenneth Griffith turned up in 1994's Four Weddings and a Funeral and John Welsh (1905–85) was dear old Merriman in The Duchess of Duke Street.
